Reed diffusers are one of the simplest ways to fragrance your home — no flame, no timer, no fuss. But a few small habits make a big difference to how well they perform and how long they last. Here's everything you need to know.
What's inside the box
A COHO ALTO reed diffuser comes with a glass vessel filled with fragrance oil and a bundle of natural rattan reeds. The reeds draw the oil upward through capillary action and release the scent into the air — gently and continuously.
Step 1: Choose the right spot
Place your diffuser somewhere with a little airflow — a hallway, near a door, or on a windowsill. Moving air carries the scent further. Avoid placing it directly under a radiator or in direct sunlight, as heat accelerates evaporation and shortens the life of the oil.
Step 2: Insert the reeds
Remove the stopper, place the reeds into the vessel, and let them soak for a few minutes. Then flip them so the dry ends are submerged and the saturated ends point upward. This gives you an immediate burst of fragrance.
Step 3: Flip regularly
Flip your reeds every one to two weeks to refresh the scent. The more reeds you use, the stronger the throw — start with half the bundle in a smaller room and add more if you want a bolder fragrance.
How long will it last?
A 100ml diffuser typically lasts 8–12 weeks depending on room size, temperature, and how many reeds you use. When the oil runs low, top it up with a COHO ALTO reed diffuser refill — it's more sustainable and more economical than buying a whole new set.
Which scent for which room?
- Hallway or entrance: something fresh and welcoming — try Lemongrass & Ginger for an uplifting first impression.
- Living room: a warmer, richer scent like Tobacco & Mint works beautifully in a larger space.
- Bedroom: go softer — lavender or floral blends encourage relaxation.
- Bathroom: citrus or clean aquatic notes feel fresh and spa-like.
